City of Tacoma and Port planners will host a community workshop July 29 to talk about the Container Port Element of the City's Comprehensive Plan.

A 2010 amendment to the State Growth Management Act requires the City and Port to:

• Further define and protect the core of the port industrial area and related industrial uses; 
• Ensure continued, efficient freight corridor access to the core area; 
• Identify and work to resolve key land-use conflicts along the edge of the core area; and 
• Minimize and mitigate as much as possible incompatible uses along the edge of the core area.

A first step in the planning process, the workshop will describe the project, share information gathered and hear thoughts on issues affecting the Port and related industrial area. More information is available by visiting the City's website and clicking on "Container Port Element."
